Description
Mifepristone Tablets is a prescription medication that works as a progesterone receptor antagonist. It is commonly used in combination with misoprostol to end an early pregnancy (medical abortion). By blocking progesterone, a hormone needed to maintain pregnancy, Mifepristone helps the uterine lining break down and prepares the body for the next step of the process.
In addition to its primary use, Mifepristone is also prescribed under strict medical supervision for other health conditions, including Cushing’s syndrome (to control high blood sugar levels caused by excess cortisol).
Common Uses of Mifepristone Tablets
-
Medical abortion: Safely and effectively ends an early pregnancy (usually up to 10 weeks gestation) when used with misoprostol.
-
Cushing’s syndrome: Helps manage high blood sugar in adults with endogenous Cushing’s syndrome when surgery is not an option.
-
Research and clinical trials: Studied for potential use in other hormone-related conditions.
